We are working with evaplan at the University Hospital Heidelberg GmbH, EPOS Health Management and the aQua Institute within the framework of the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) Programme “Promotion of Mother and Child Health (MCH) Programme in Tajikistan”. Specifically, we focus on improving the accessibility, quality, and efficiency of health services in a project with the title ‘Quality Improvement of Hospital Services’ (QIHS). The first mechanism we are using is to facilitate the strengthening of the national Medical Accreditation Centre, an organization established by the Tajikistan government to accredit all healthcare facilities. We work closely with the Centre in bringing their healthcare standards and accreditation processes to an international standard. 

The second mechanism we use is to facilitate Quality Improvement (QI) activities in selected hospitals in 8 district multi-functional hospitals in the Kulyab area, with a focus on maternal and child health. We are building the capacity of multi-disciplinary teams in self-assessments of their health facilities with ongoing planning and activities to improve quality and we work with them to identify and implement improvements in their internal processes such as waste management and infection prevention within their limited resources.
